A lab that ships its instruments

Gauge Numerics is a small machine learning lab in Vancouver, founded in 2025. We work on agents that learn to plan, where the planning lives inside the model: one forward pass, self-supervised, learned from observation rather than demonstration. No search at test time, no expert to imitate.

Needle is the first product of that work. Along the way to planning we needed a model that could read a situation and commit to a typed decision, fast and with a probability you can set a threshold on. That turned out to be useful on its own, so we put an API in front of it.

How we work

We publish what we measure, including the results that did not go our way. The benchmarks page carries the caveats as prominently as the wins, and our reports record failed experiments alongside the ones that worked. If a number on this site is not measured, it is labelled as an estimate or an illustration.
