Terms of service

These terms cover this website and the Needle API. Gauge Numerics is operated by Ethan Thoma, a sole proprietor in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ("we"). By using the site or an API key, you agree to them. If you use Needle on behalf of a company, you confirm you can agree for it.

The preview

Needle is in private preview. It is provided as is, with no uptime commitment or service level. Models, endpoints, limits and response shapes can change, and we will note changes in the docs. We issue keys at our discretion and can revoke one at any time, for example to protect the service or other users.

Your key

Keep your key secret. You are responsible for requests made with it. If you think it has leaked, email us and we will revoke it and issue a new one.

Acceptable use

Do not use Needle or this site to:

• break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
• send data you have no right to send, including other people's personal information without a lawful basis;
• extract, copy or reconstruct the model or its weights, or reverse engineer the service;
• load test, probe or scan the service without our written permission;
• make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on a person, such as on credit, employment, housing, insurance or access to services, without a human reviewing the decision.

Needle returns probabilities, not guarantees. You decide the thresholds and remain responsible for what your system does with an answer.

Your data

You keep all rights to the state and questions you send and the answers you receive. We store requests for 30 days to debug problems and review abuse, and we do not train models on them. The privacy policy has the details.

Pricing

Prices are on the pricing page. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before a price increase applies to your key.

Our work

The site, its content, the Needle model and the API remain ours. Benchmarks and reports are published for information; you may quote them with attribution.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 100 Canadian dollars. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending use

You can stop using Needle at any time. We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or end the preview with reasonable notice. The sections on your data, our work and liability continue after that.

Changes and law

If we change these terms we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, email key holders before they take effect. These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and disputes go to the courts of British Columbia.
